Reading is the Core of the Core Subjects

Our Reading Level Up Virtual Flex Package program is for parents who cannot always accommodate the option for formal, live virtual classes into their schedules. With our virtual flex package program, you will have access to Foundations A-Z and IXL and printed resources that will work as a full reading curriculum or supplement. Your child will meet live on Zoom, on Wednesdays, with his/her teacher, in order to review written work and assigned online work. You child will also participate in special, differentiated, small group meeting on Mondays and Fridays with the teacher assistant. +++++++++We understand that you have many other commitments, and this program offers the flexibility you need, while still having access to resources and various options for receiving support from your teacher, teacher assistant, and director.

 

In the Wednesday Zoom meetings, the teacher will work with students to check on their online progress, target instructions based on data reports, and review written work. This day will also feature story time and learning games. Your child will also be given a few minutes to get back on track with his/her online assignments. All of these activities will use breakout rooms  (about 30-min.) with a teacher assistant present.

 

Parents will receive a suggested guide/schedule to follow to help then to complete the online assignments and printed activities during working time at home. Class assignments will be emailed to you weekly. Your child’s class will be given assignments to work on at home for the week. The teacher assistant will be available at a arranged times on Mondays and on Fridays each week to connect briefly online (live) and to connect through other communication (text, phone, email) to give support as needed.

Class Design

 

Day 1

One hour /with Teacher on Wednesdays @ 4:30 pm EST (tentative)

 

Block #1 (35min)

1) Whole group; announcements; review of week’s objectives

2) Foundations A-Z log in/check in

3) Zoom break-out room with Foundations A-Z's Explore Zone (whole group)

     and mini-lessons (small group using books in each students' "Library" and other resources for

      differentiation)

Block #2 (10min).  (whole group)

1)  Story-time: Read Aloud; highlight vocabulary and reading strategies

Block #3 (15min)   (whole group)

1) Learning games and notebook/workbook assignments w/

Day 2

Thirty min /with Teacher Assistant on Mondays

Group 1 (1st set @10 of 20 students) checks-in with Teacher Assistant on Zoom

 

1) Monitor Foundations A-Z log-ins;

2) Review written assignments;

3) Get started on assigned weekly question sets on IXL website

4) Complete ReadWorks story and questions for enrichment

Day 3

Thirty min /with Teacher Assistant on Fridays

Group 2 (2nd set @10 of 20 students) checks-in with Teacher Assistant on Zoom

 

1) Monitor Foundations A-Z log-ins;

2) Review written assignments;

3)Get started on assigned weekly question sets on IXL website

4) Complete ReadWorks story and questions for enrichment
